We all know misery loves company. When we are in misery we want to feel less isolated and alone. We want to know that someone is there who understands or cares about our suffering. We can’t help it. We are human.
Joy loves company too. Why do we praise someone’s joy from a distance, as if our participation in it could take some of the joy away? Joy is unlimited. Our participation in the joy of others increases the joy exponentially.
We tend to get caught up in the disappointments and tragedy of life. Everyone remembers the shocking accident or the surprise defeat. But life is just as likely to surprise us with an unexpected success, a turn of events that brings excitement and hope.
We recover from sickness, we bounce back from defeat, we change for the better, we fall in love, we have babies, we have talents, we have the right thing to say at the right moment, we get out of bed in the morning. Life works out for us so many times a day we forget to notice that most everything around us is awesome and amazing.
Let’s celebrate the awesome. Let’s get caught up in each others joy. Let’s get tangled up in each other’s successes. Let’s make a big deal about someone or something that made us smile.
